I’m a historian and Russia specialist, currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oslo’s Department of Literature, Area Studies, and European Languages. I’m also affiliated with the Center for Research on Extremism (C-REX).
I mainly work on the history of Soviet and post-Soviet Russia. My first book, Soviet Russians under Nazi Occupation (Cambridge University Press, 2018), deals with identity, loyalty, and power in a German-occupied province of Russia during World War II. In my current postdoctoral project, I seek to explain how and why a right-wing extremist movement took root in post-Soviet Russia and grew into the most violent of its kind. My research interests also include contemporary European antisemitism, particularly its violent manifestations.
I blog about these and related topics at The Restless Russianist.
